Wisdom Teeth Removal in Dubbo

A Safe & Comfortable Process

As part of our comprehensive range of dental services, our team also performs teeth extraction, as well as wisdom teeth removal. Dubbo patients may think that it sounds like a terrifying prospect, in truth and in the right hands, surgery is quick, minimally invasive and relatively comfortable.

Wisdom teeth are usually only removed if they are causing a problem, yet according to one study, over 70% of young people suffer from one or more impacted wisdom teeth, meaning these aren’t able to emerge normally. So it is an incredibly common process. For some, it’s even considered a right of passage into adulthood.

If you do require a tooth extraction, one of our team will discuss the procedure with you to ensure that you understand the process and are happy to proceed.

Wisdom teeth extractions in Dubbo – What you can expect!

We perform wisdom teeth extraction in the clinic environment, or in a private hospital under general anaesthesia. We also accommodate sedation, if a patient requests it, so we can do the procedure while you are sedated by a specialist on the chair.

If a wisdom tooth is impacted we, first of all, have to remove the gum tissue from the jawbone. Before we do this, however, our experienced Dubbo dentist will ensure that you remain comfortable. We do this by administering a local anaesthetic in and around the extraction site.

Once you are comfortable and you give us the go-ahead to proceed, we may begin by sectioning your tooth into pieces. This way the tooth can be removed easier and it’s generally better for the patient. Once the problematic wisdom tooth has been removed, our dentist will check and clean out the extraction site and close your gum back up with sutures, if needed.

So how long does a wisdom tooth removal in ADC Dubbo take?

Wisdom teeth extractions in ADC Dubbo take on average 45 minutes to one hour but again, this can vary depending upon the scope of the dental problem. Naturally, a severely impacted wisdom tooth will take longer to remove than one which has erupted normally but is causing pain

What about post-procedure?

ADC Dubbo patients can expect 2-3 days of slight discomfort and possibly some swelling, although symptoms and recovery can vary depending upon the patient and the tooth extraction itself. Any discomfort felt can usually be brought under control using over-the-counter painkillers.

With regards to eating and drinking, Dubbo patients should stick to soft foods like pasta, rice or soup for a few days and drink plenty of water to speed up recovery. They should also avoid eating or drinking anything that is too hot or ice cold. Teeth can be brushed after the first day, but you may want to avoid the site for a day or so, until it’s had proper time to heal.
